Meet the Educator Behind A Good Start Reading

Lois Wendus, the creator of A Good Start Reading, is a certified reading specialist with over 30 years of experience as a teacher, Literacy Coach, and Special Education instructor.

Throughout her career, Lois has worked one-on-one with students from preschool through high school—helping children of all learning levels build foundational reading and writing skills with confidence. She’s especially known for her ability to bring struggling readers back to grade level through practical, effective instruction.

As a Literacy Coach, Lois led district-wide literacy initiatives, data-based instruction programs, and small group interventions. She holds a Master of Science in Special Education and a Sixth Year in Reading, and was honored as Teacher of the Year for Woodland School in East Hartford, CT.

Her passion for education began as a teenager volunteering at a summer camp for children with special needs—and she’s been helping students succeed ever since.

In addition to developing this program, Lois is the co-founder and illustrator of Oli Kids Co., a mother-daughter company that creates children’s books and early literacy tools. She also continues to offer private tutoring through her business, Leaps in Learning, supporting students with individualized reading instruction.
